Masala Dosa with Potato Filling |
Masala Dosa is a traditional
South Indian Cuisine Recipe. It is a thin crispy crepe fill with potato
curry. It is a worldwide popular vegetarian dish. It is one of
the common breakfasts in South
India.
Masala Dosa is one type of Dosa which filled with cooked Potato
curry. Masala Dosa Potato Filling is
made from potato, onion, curry leaves, mustard seeds, green chili, turmeric
powder, salt, lemon juice etc. Masala
Dosa is always served with Chutneys
and Sambar.

Masala Dosa |
Ingredients:
For masala dosa batter:
Rice
– 3 cup
Urad
dal(split black lentils) - 1 cup
Fenugreek
seeds – ½ ts (optional)
Salt
– to taste
For Potato filling of Masala Dosa:
Oil
– 1 tbs
Potato
– 3 boiled and chopped
Onion
– 2 sliced
Mustard
seeds – ½ ts
Cumin
seeds – ½ ts
Curry
leaves – 5-6 leaves
Green
chili – 1 no. chopped
Turmeric
powder – ¼ ts
Coriander
powder – 1 ts
Cumin
powder – ½ ts
Salt
– to taste
Lemon
juice – ½
Oil/Butter
- for saute
Method:
For Masala Dosa Batter:
1.
Soak rice
for 4-5 hours.
2.
Mix urad dal
and fenugreek seeds; soak for 4-5 hours.
3.
Strain water
from rice and urad dal.
4.
Grind rice
well.
5.
Grind urad
dal and fenugreek seeds well.
6.
Mix both
paste well.
7.
Rest for 4-5
hours at warm place.
8.
Add salt and
stir well. Little water also can be added to make batter thin.
9. Masala Dosa Batter is ready to use.

For Potato Filling of Masala Dosa:
1.
Heat pan;
add oil.
2.
Add mustard
seed, add cumin seeds; when they crackle add onion.
3.
Add curry
leaves and green chili.
4.
Cook till
onion becomes golden color.
5.
Add potato,
turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, salt, lemon juice and mix
well.
For Masala Dosa:
1.
Heat
non-stick flat pan over high flame.
2.
Sprinkle 1
ts water and ½ ts oil on pan to make cleanly and non sticky.
3.
Pour a ladle
of batter in the middle of the flat pan.
4.
Spread immediately
in round shape with the help of back side of a ladel or a small bowl; make a
thin layer.
5.
Spread oil
or butter around it.
6.
Cook till
dosa becomes golden color in down side.
7.
Turn it and
cook other side for a few seconds.
8.
Again turn
it and place 1 tbs filling, fold half and remove from pan.
9.
MASALA DOSA
is ready to serve.
Serving Tip:
Serve
immediately with Coconut Chutney and
Sambhar.
